Christmas Care, Providing temporary shelter for the homeless and lonely over Christmas
Christmas Care 2016
This year's shelter will be at Buckhurst Park Community Centre formerly known as the Dome. The shelter will be open Christmas Eve to the morning of the 28th of December. It will be open 24 hours and all run by volunteers.
In the past we've had 60+ people in each day for food and company and we can sleep 30+ people each night. We also take in people living on their own and on low income.
With limited car space at the dome, the volunteer meetings will be held at the St Joseph Catholic College Octal Way, Swindon SN3 2LR Wednesday 16th and Thursday 24th of November at 7:30pm each night.
Kevin at the Swindon rugby club, Greenbridge will take in donations of tin food and toiletries on Saturday the 10th of December 10am to 2pm and Sunday 11th December 10am to 3pm.
The Dome will be open for donations of food, toiletries, towels, ladies and gentlemen's warm clothing and footwear on Saturday 17th of December 12 pm to 3 pm.
The management of the Brunel Plaza is giving us a shop next to the Sue Ryder store on the ground floor Saturday 3rd December and Saturday 10th December 10am to 12noon, we will be taking in donations of food, toiletries, warm clothing and footwear.
Pilgrim Centre: Will be taking donations of tinned food, toiletries from Tuesday Dec 1st to Friday, 10am to 2pm. (no bedding or clothing thank you).
We are not taking in any bedding as it has been sponsored by the car shop in Penny Lane and the Rotary Club of Swindon.
The manager at Tesco's Octal Way will be putting out a container from December for customers to donate food and toiletries. We also need funds to help cover the cost of hiring the Centre and for insurance, please can cheques be made out to Christmas Care c/o 18 Helston Rd, Park North Swindon SN3 2LA. Receipt will be given for all cash donations.
More dates of donations and venues will be listed on our donations page, Facebook, local press, radio and link magazine. Due to health reasons Patsy will be stepping down as chair this year.
(Health and safety rules state volunteers and guests must be 16 years of age and over.)
This will result in many changes, so please keep an eye on this webpage and Facebook
Thank you for all your help and time.
